@troybrownrigg You do the same as any kind of tower. Just pound a steel rod into the ground and attach a copper #8 bare wire via a lug to it. If your lucky then the tower and turbine take the hit and if your disconnect is fused your inside equipment survives.

  2. frank2398 says:

At first I had had to say to myself “Why is the turbine camouflaged?” But after watching I have to say I kinda dig it! Great video and thanks!

  3. MrMatt027 says:

    Nice set up.

  4. jeffmolly1 says:

@fuckityouwin No i do not. It will not short out. Rain is a bad conducter of electricity anyway. 12 volt 500, yes.
It’s about 40 feet to the building with nimber 4 welding cable.
    Jeff, MWAS

  5. fuckityouwin says:

Do you put any kind of rainshield on it to prevent the + from being grounded to the case during a storm?
    is this the 12v 500w or 1000w?
Also wondered how far the wires run to the building?
You sort of cut away before seing the whole length so I wasn’t sure.

  6. troybrownrigg says:

What happens when there hit by lightning? Or what precautions are taken to prevent that damage

  7. dallasgoldbug says:

Why not kick up the voltage at the box on the pole and utilize much thinner wire? Then once inside kick it down to 12 or 24volt (whatever you need) making it a bit more easy to manage wire and cost wise.

  8. thesoulsekr says:

My light bill says I use an average of 24-48 KWH/day. How many turbines and what wattage should I run to achieve that? What would the cost be ball park?

  9. kricotas says:

    thanks

  10. jeffmolly1 says:

@kricotas no i do not sell towers. you use a reducer to change the pipe size.
    jeff

  11. kricotas says:

question? i need to buy a wind tower
do you have this? Standard SCH40 2″ steel pipe
for my wind turbine pipe or you have any idea have to conecte? with differente pipe?
thanks hope you can help me
    gracias!

    @oitseric
thanks oitseric,i get tired of these idiots that take the time to correct your spelling like it really matters.anyway i sell the locking collars on my web site missouriwindandsolar , i don’t know of anybody else that sells them.

  13. oitseric says:

hey depravedepuma If you have somehing bad to say , keep it to yourself! Jeff is a smart man!!! he knows his Stuff! I am a A&P Mechanic if you know what that is and in the industry Turbine is pronounced “turban” whtaever he says you know what the heck he is talking about!!!

Anyway Jeff! I live in DE close to Dover right now we are getting 40Mph winds normal is 4 to 10 MPH. I want to get a starter kit wind turbine but need to build the tower first.. Where do i get the locking collars?

  14. jeffmolly1 says:

    @depravedpuma
well are’nt you just a genius,i’am getting tired of you correcting my english.
where i come from thats just plain rude.and DUDE YOUR RUDE.

  15. jeffmolly1 says:

    @CountryCabinsInn yes you can

  16. CountryCabinsInn says:

    Jeff,
If you put two turbines on a tower, could you use the bus bars to combine the power before bringing it into the house?
    Thanks for these great videos.

  17. laithnour says:

i need a windmill for my bollox

  18. jeffmolly1 says:

@DD826 welding cable is used and it’s meant to twist with no problems.
seldom does the wind come from more than 2 directions.it will unwind itself.

  19. DD826 says:

hey Jeff, what keeps the cable from eventually getting all twisted up?

  20. tslabjr7 says:

thanks for your up load i sorta figured it out. i posted before i asked for my dad’s help. i just have one question. how does this thing get tied into a house? i don’t think ive seen a video about that yet. if you do have one can you tell me which one?

  21. jeffmolly1 says:

see all my videos at jeffmolly1.

  22. tslabjr7 says:

can you help me out? i am doing a school project and can not find any step by step directions on isntalling one of these things.

  23. jeffmolly1 says:

the wind turbine is shorted out so we can do the video.when your up close you don’t want the raptor blades to start up.
20′ is a minimum height for towers, the higher the better.
    jeff

  24. pife2u says:

how high up does the tower have to be before the blades start turning? You can hear the wind at ground level but the blades aren’t turning at 18 feet in the air? why?

  25. MrPinaka says:

can i use an electric fan blade?

  26. defiant140 says:

    good work

  27. ROASTCHICKEN2000 says:

    DYI?My ass

  28. ripadisc says:

hey man do you have any kind of breaking device on it in case of stormy weather ?

  29. nhojmabon says:

Hello jerrisn, me and a group of engineer students were considering building a wind generator something like this. I was a little concerned about how much noise these DIY wind turbines can make, is your wind turbine generator noticably loud? Thankyou for your time :)

  30. MondoBeno says:

If you’re make the generator from the motor of an electric fan, how big do the blades have to be?

  31. EyeCheatYouLose says:

    @joelrondel

go to ebay. They sell there blades in a 6 pack 60″ for around $15. Use a blower motor for a car, also ebay, 20 bucks.

  32. joelrondel says:

please tell me where do get these motors from and what kind of motors is this …

  33. Gangster4life45 says:

how long can you make the blades without losing too much speed?

  34. jerrisn says:

It was around 44vdc @ 10a. It all depends on the wind speed.
